At Rogue Wave Software we talk a lot about the benefits of OpenLogic Support, and the fact that it provides you with around-the-clock access to Tier 3/4 open source architects – with no escalation path! Our open source architects become an extension of your team – ready to support, consult, and educate your team to solve issues across your entire software stack and development lifecycle. Because of that we wanted you to meet them, understand their expertise, their passion for open source, and how they can help you.
Andrew is a technical support engineer on the OpenLogic support team at Rogue Wave Software.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in computer science with a concentration in information technology from East Tennessee State University. I’ve worked in software development for the past 10 years and have worked in IT for the last 20 years.
Years of experience: 20
What is your area of expertise?
Architecture, support, and software development.
Which packages do you work on primarily?
How do you contribute back to the open source community?
I have provided support via different methods, answering forums, responding to email lists, and providing web pages with tutorials on how to troubleshoot different problems. I work on bugs for different open source software projects and I have provided source code patches, solutions, and ideas.
Where do you go to stay informed about open source?
Tell us your best “ah-ha” moment or customer experience.
I have taught classes and worked with many different customers as a consultant. The best experience is always when customers come back to me after the fact and tell me how much they learned, show me how much they learned, or ask for additional help and training.
Why do you love your job?
Technology fascinates me, and learning is great, too. I get to do both every day. I used to do this in my spare time, now I get paid for it. It doesn’t really get much better than that.
Tell us something interesting about you.
I am in the process of writing a book, “Apache Tomcat 9,” which is being published by a major technical label.
