At Rogue Wave Software we talk a lot about the benefits of OpenLogic Support and the fact that it provides you with around-the-clock access to Tier 3/4 open source architects – with no escalation path! Our open source architects become an extension of your team – ready to support, consult, and educate your team to solve issues across your entire software stack and development lifecycle. Because of that we wanted you to meet them, understand their expertise, their passion for open source, and how they can help you.
Bill is a enterprise architect on the OpenLogic support team at Rogue Wave Software.
I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a Java 1.2 developer certification. I’ve worked as a technical lead, application developer, enterprise architect, infrastructure supporter, and mentor.
Years of experience: 21
What is your area of expertise?
Java, JEE application servers, and middleware technologies such as MQ.
Which packages do you work on primarily?
How do you contribute back to the open source community?
I contribute to the Central Authentication Service (CAS) open source project as well as a Groovy framework called Gretty.
Where do you go to stay informed about open source?
Tell us your best “ah-ha” moment or customer experience.
My best “ah-ha!” moment was discovering that open source software has better quality control than proprietary source code. One example of this is IBM.
Why do you love your job?
I would say what I love most about my job is the variety. I never know what I’ll be working on, and it’s challenging.
Tell us something interesting about you.
I had a Technician’s class amateur radio operator license at age 15.
