Over the past few weeks we’ve introduced you to several members of our OpenLogic support team. Our open source architects become an extension of your team and because of that we want you to meet them, understand their expertise, their passion for open source, and how they can help you.
Ken has a BS from MIT Sloan School, is a Java developer, and a software architect and team lead at Rogue Wave Software.
Years of experience: 27
What is your area of expertise?
Java development / Enterprise architecture
Which packages do you work on primarily?
Why do you love your job?
The best part of my job is tackling the newest technologies to solve problems that have persisted over the course of my career.
What are some common misconceptions about open source?
That it ‘means’ free, which is definitely not true. Recently, Rogue Wave did a webinar on the true costs of open source covering the technical, security, and licensing hurdles that you may face.
That commercial software ensures better quality.
Why should organizations consider investing in open source support?
Investing in outside support provides your organization access to an entire team with decades of knowledge, ready to support, consult, and educate your team to solve issues. Third party support also provides a non-biased outside perspective.
How do you see open source evolving?
Corporate entities have been swallowing up successful projects so I see an eventual resurgence of truly independent projects as needs have to be met by fringe offerings.
