Agile development gets boost from Klocwork’s developer desktop source code analysis

BURLINGTON, Mass. — Jul 29, 2008 — Klocwork Inc., the proven leader in automated source code analysis solutions for improving software security and quality, today announced the company’s solution to enhance Agile development. Given the speed and fluidity of the Agile development process, it’s critical developers are given the ability to check-in clean code that’s free of bugs. To augment existing developer test tools, it’s recommended that organizations also adopt source code analysis (SCA) as an automated solution to reduce the number of bugs in their code.

Klocwork, an Agile development shop itself, enables development teams to check-in clean code, collaborate on critical bug and vulnerability resolution, and re-factor their architecture to create cleaner components. Its flagship product, Klocwork Insight, fits seamlessly into the Agile development process and integrates with continuous integration build environments such as Electric Cloud, adding considerable value to an Agile organization.

Klocwork Insight fits well with typical quality milestones in an Agile process: the developer code check-in and the integration build. Unlike other SCA tools that require developers to submit their code into the build stream to uncover any bugs, Klocwork Insight’s connected desktop analysis allows developers to run fast, local SCA without sacrificing a comprehensive view of the entire code base. Using Klocwork Insight in an Agile environment empowers development teams to check-in cleaner code and spend more time churning out new and innovative code rather than debugging issues found by QA. In addition, Klocwork provides a software architecture and re-engineering capability to support Agile’s need for clean software components that aren’t overly complex or dependent on other parts of the system.

“The use of Agile development is seeing continuous and steady growth in the industry,” said Gwyn Fisher, Chief Technology Officer, Klocwork. “Organizations today are under immense pressure to deliver better software, quickly. The use of SCA in an Agile development environment no doubt helps organizations meet that demand. Klocwork Insight is a perfect fit for Agile and specifically helps developers write higher quality code with fewer bugs.”

Klocwork will be presenting at this year’s Agile 2008 Conference in Toronto. The presentation titled, “Source Code Analysis in an Agile World,” will examine the evolution of SCA technology and provide technical examples of why and how it should be deployed for maximum benefit within an Agile development process. The presentation will take place August 8 at 8:30 a.m. Additionally, the Company will be exhibiting at the show and can be found at booth # 924.

Klocwork Insight is a leading static source code analysis tool for C, C++ and Java, and the only solution with a Connected Desktop Analysis capability that enables developers to run the analysis with full system context right at their desktop, before they check-in their code. Solutions are available in two versions: Klocwork Insight for C/C++ and Java and Klocwork Insight for Java.
