Klocwork 2016 is now ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 certified. The new Certificate “Z10 16 04 89117 002” replaces previous certificate “Z10 14 07 89117 001” issued for Klocwork 9.6-SR4.
ISO 26262 applies to production passenger vehicles up to 3500 kilograms (7716 pounds) and is designed to address possible hazards caused by malfunctioning electronic and electrical systems. Examples of these systems include include anti-lock brakes, traction control systems, adaptive cruise control systems, engine control units, and digital instrument clusters. ISO 26262 is an adaptation of the IEC 61508 standard.
IEC 61508 is the international standard for electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic safety related systems. It sets out the requirements for ensuring that systems are designed, implemented, operated, and maintained to provide the required safety integrity level (SIL). Both standards take into account the increasing use of tools for software application development and explicitly require that development tools be qualified.
Why it matters
This certification qualifies Klocwork as a tool that can be used in a standards-compliant development process according to ISO 26262 up to ASIL D and IEC 61508 up to SIL 3. Klocwork allows developers to use a certified set of checkers to find and fix security vulnerabilities and critical defects with confidence, knowing that they have been designed, developed, tested, and released in an audited and certified manner. Klocwork also provides guidance to ensure that developers use static code analysis in a functionally safe way that supports their own application for ISO 26262 certification.
With Klocwork 2016, the certification scope now includes the Klocwork MISRA-C:2012 suite of checkers in addition to the MISRA-C:2004, MISRA-C++:2008, and Severity 1, Severity 2 C/C++ checkers. An updated Qualification Pack is also available for customers to test the integrity of their Klocwork deployment with the above set of checkers.
